Lack Of Sorrowness In Bigger Thomas “One man’s remorse is another man’s reminiscence.” These words, spoken by Ogden Nash, perfectly depict the thoughts of Bigger Thomas in Richard Wright’s novel, Native Son. Throughout the novel, Bigger Thomas demonstrates no sorrow regarding his actions in multiple events. These events include: cutting off Mary’s head, Blaming Jan for his murder, and killing Bessie. Bigger portrays his insufficient guilt when he cuts Mary’s head off. While in the furnace room with Mary’s body Bigger sees she won’t fit so he chops her head off. “ He whacked at the bone with the black hair dragging about in blood. He whacked harder, but the head would not come off” (P. 91). This quote clearly shows that Bigger does not care about his actions and has no remorse. Bigger displays his insensitivity to the Dalton family by doing this it shows that he does not care, and while cutting up Mary, Bigger gets a shot of adrenaline which may have caused him to commit other murders. …show more content…
