Whenever you drive down a highway and see a patch of wildflowers, there’s one woman you may want to thank: Lady Bird Johnson. It may come as no surprise that someone called Lady Bird would love the outdoors, but Lady Bird Johnson took her love to make the world a better place.

Lady Bird Johnson is best-known as First Lady and wife of Lyndon B. Johnson, the 36th President of the United States. Many First Ladies devote their time to important causes while living in the White House; Lady Bird Johnson’s cause was the beautification of Washington. During her stint as First Lady, she helped create the Committee for a More Beautiful National Capital, a group that planted numerous trees and flowers in and around the capital city.
