In my junior year of high school, there was a standardized test which is mandatory for graduation. In test there was a passage that I read, it was talking about using trash and manure to produce natural gases. Extracting natural gas from the landfill is called, “landfill utilization.” The only reason why landfill produces natural gases is due to the biodegradable object in it, the bacteria there eats it and produce these gases.
After school and closely to every day, I have been thinking about landfill utilization. With the long bus rides going back and forth from school and home, which is about 30 minutes trip. Creating ideas on how could landfill utilization can work in today's society, how we can adjust the way we live to make it work, …show more content…

There are two way of using gases to produce electricity; Simple cycle and Combined cycle. The simple cycle is just using gases to be heat up and the heat air will turn the turbine to a generator. A combine cycle is the most efficient then using the simple cycle, it can produce twice as much electricity. Like the simple cycle the natural or landfill gases will be heat up but it will be reused to heat up the water in pipes. The steam will be turn an additional turbine to a generator it will produce twice as much power than just using a simple …show more content…

Pre-combination carbon capture is where the natural gases mix with pure oxygen air and put into solution is called catalytic converter. After the produces is done a chemical called anime start forming above the solution. The anime and carbon dioxide get mix and get very heated. This process is been very popular for natural gases. Post-combination is where we capture the carbon dioxide which is put into a solution called flue gases. Flue gases is combination of carbon dioxide, water vapors, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides. This process is 80-90% efficiency capturing carbon dioxide emission. Oxy-fuel combination capture, is what it has in the oxy or oxygen. This process is burning natural gases in rich oxygen air and the mixture of steam and carbon dioxide will be cool and compress. This method is more expensive than the rest but it has a 90% carbon catching efficiency
We have the technology to capture carbon dioxide but what do we do with it? There are different way of using carbon dioxide or storing it. A research by the George Washington University lead by professor Stuart Licht has called carbon dioxide as, “Diamond in the Sky.” He put carbon dioxide into electrolytic bath filled with molten lithium and electric current. The carbon is pumped into the solution
