Larry Curtis was a tall, middle-aged man. At first glance, Larry would seem to a casual observer to be an innocent, poor man. His hair was frizzy and it came down to his buff and muscular shoulders. His hair was brown and he had an oval face with many red scars. The white shoes that he wore were completely worn-out and ripped apart. His brown coat had holes the size of tennis balls, and his blue pants were five sizes too big. He was too poor to afford other coats. Larry did not have parents. His mother and father died when he was a child. His house was very old and broken down. The aged bathroom had water leaking from the ceiling, and his living room was filled with debris. Larry had gotten used to this way of living because his parents were not there during his childhood to teach him about cleaning and keeping things organized. Burned buildings were everywhere. Rotten food and dead animals were on the cement roads. For money, Larry would steal from drug stores and threaten people. Stealing was normal in the town in which he lived. People were ruthless, and they fought each other for money. However, Larry ended up in prison because he was not as astute as others. He was an average student in high school. Larry murdered an old-aged man with a sharp knife. He did that to earn money. Larry’s poor circumstances made him kill that person. Jail was dreadful for Larry. His vault had a single bed and an over-flooded toilet. The meat he received every day to eat looked rotten and even had toe nail clippings in it. Larry wanted to get out of prison because he was beaten up almost every day. He had blue marks on his bony cheeks beside his broken nose. It looked like he had multiple blood clots on his face. That was the first time Larry’s hazel eyes were filled with tears. The other prisoners could even hear Larry’s breath from far away because he was depleted and worn
