The bronze statue of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha is located in Pawhuska, Oklahoma on the property of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Saint Kateri Tekakwitha was the first Native American woman to be officially canonized by the Catholic Church, an event that occurred as recently as 2012. This life-size work of art can be found standing proudly in the center of a large outdoor shrine dedicated to her name. The shrine is situated within a large, moderately deep hole inside the earth. Yusef Komunyakaa’s poem and Stephen Crane's excerpt factor similar and different events throughout their stories. While Crane’s piece is written from one man’s point of view, Komunyakaa uses the collective voice of a group of soldiers. In Crane’s excerpt, it talks more about fighting, what’s happening and going on in the war. In the poem, it talks more about what the soldiers do to mask their feelings and their emotions to stay strong and not get distracted thinking of memories of family.

On the 29th of December in 2011 Kali Jo Arnzen, a regular high school going 17 year old teenage girl was ice skating in the area between Ritter and the bank when she heard ice break. The manner in which this young girl reacted to the situation at hand is what would classify her as a true hero.
