Las Vegas is a city in the desert. If it were not for man-made initiatives, Las Vegas would be a very hard place to live. Today, the man made Lake, Lake Mead is drying up, this has brought awareness to the state of Nevada, who are now trying to improve and expand its ‘eco-friendly’ initiatives in order to sustain Las Vegas in alternative, clean ways. Solar Energy, LEED’s building and water conservation are becoming much more popular than ever before. Las Vegas is striving to become a sustainable city.

With its large amounts of consumption, a loss in its main water source has become a main issue for the city, resulting in many new measures to in order to scale back its water usage and find alternative ways to conserve energy on the strip. One of the most important ways Las Vegas and its hotels are conserving water are by using underground aquifers, that treat and recycle water happy from the their own hotels, and then reuse it(). This is a great step in conserving surface water from cohen Lake Mead. Smaller measures of water conservation have taken place within resorts and casinos. The drinking water in hotels is recycled water. Hotels no longer wash bed linens everyday, and they no longer serve standard glasses of water in restaurants unless ask to do so mark by the customer(). Hotels and Resorts have also had to find alternative ways to source electricity. The Las Vegas strip was using so much power that they were constantly plagued with rolling blackouts(). In order to stop rolling blackouts and to scale back power usage, Las Vegas has become the leader in the amount of LEED certified buildings in any American city(), LEED stands for, mark Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
