Judgment is atrocious. Judgment is stifling. Latin Americans cannot fix the conflicts of their past due to their hasty decisions. Latin Americans feel isolated from their freedom. Europe views Latin America negatively. Solitude is the state of being alone; it can be interpreted as a positive or negative connotation. The famous speech, “The Solitude of Latin America” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez incorporates a negative connotation of solitude. In “The Solitude of Latin America”, Marquez illuminates the metaphor solitude is judgment throughout his speech and his famous magical realism story, “A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings.” Marquez conveys solitude as ostracism. Europeans misunderstands Latin Americans because of their horrific past. For example, Marquez strongly believes “Those clear-sighted Europeans who struggle, here as well, for a more just humane homeland, could help us far better if they reconsider their way of seeing us” (Marquez 2). For instance, Marquez emphasizes, “Before going to bed he dragged him out of the mud and locked him up with the hens in the wire chicken coop.”(Marquez 1) Marquez relocates the angel to the chicken coop with hens without knowing who he really is on the inside. Angels are not supposed to be kept in a chicken coop. He was judged by his appearance.
