My name is Natalie Andre ', a graduating senior with a double major in History/ Political Science and Criminal Justice, with the attention to become an Entertainment Lawyer. I have did an extensive amount of research on the Richmond Metropolitan Area Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. I am very please to what I have seen and what this organization stands for.
Overall, gender shapes these individuals experience in United States. Many either assimilate to hegemonic ideals or resist it. Latinx migrants, youths, and queers all face the gender inequities that society implements on them due to their social location. Thus, gender is one of the many factors that affect the Latinx community and continue to affect it.
This article by Paula England, Carmen Garcia-Beaulieu, and Mary Ross examines the employment rates for women of color—black women and three groups of Latinas—and white women. They examined the amount of time women are willing/can work, education, and having children, all factors that can change employment rates for these racial/ethnic groups. However, it was concluded that education was the main factor in the employment gap, with white women gaining a higher education level more than women of color, predicting that white women will be more likely to be employed. The authors recognize intersectionality by stating that often employment offers benefits that sometimes cannot be obtainable any other way and the benefits go to women who are already
Ethel Payne was an African American journalist from Chicago, Illinois. Who worked for The Chicago Defender until around the 1970's. The article written by Ethel L. Payne for the Tri-State Defender in Memphis, Tennessee July 6,1973 " Are Black Women on TV in D.C Special Targets?". The reason I choose this particular article was because it fit the topic I was going for, being an African American female host.
Chicana women have suffered oppression, racism, sexism among other problematics. Nonetheless, they have been able to face these difficulties and fight for their rights. Two main difficulties were faced by these women, the fact of being women and the right to use their cultural heritage, specially their home language. This motivated them to get involved in social movements to fight for their rights. They had played an important role in such movements which contributed with better conditions not only for themselves but also for all Mexican Americans.
The same is true for African American individuals in the work force. The workforce claims to give everyone a fair and equal hand, but often times African Americans are given the short end of the stick. This lack of opportunity leads me to question the structural conditions that have created cultural patterns that reinforce disadvantage. The structural issues of inequality in the workforce lead many individuals to have a stigma towards African American individuals. This stigma taint’s society’s view towards this group and allows them to make judgements on other aspects of their lives.

In the reading, “(Re)constructing Latinidad: The challenge of Latina/o studies.” it explains the challenge that is, defining what it is to be a Latino in America. In the reading, it gives reasons as to why there is a challenge, examples include how diverse the Latino community is in America and how others in America perceive the Latino community. After reading the article, I saw two main ideas that Aparicio had and they were; redefining what it means to be Latino in America and to show that there are issues in the Latino community that need to be addressed. Then I will provide my reaction based on the ideas I got out of the reading.
Dominican women are an essential addition to NYC’s labor market because they work low-wage jobs which increase the total productivity of the city’s manufacturing industry. Because of these low-wage jobs, these women encounter challenges supporting their families because of the lack of upward socio-economic mobility; this then leads them to a marginalized lifestyle. Specifically, Dominican women tend to have higher levels of education than Dominican men (Gilbertson, 1995, p. 665) but still struggle with earning a living and supporting their family as single parents. An obstacle that my mother has faced is being Black Muslim women in America. It 's more of a problem than what reaches the surface and mainstream media. It 's rarely talked about in America. In america there are people who want to smear our entire faith and say that Islam is an inherently violent religion. These are exciting times to be an American Muslim.
African American women make up eight percent of the United States population, the women in this minority group deal with negative and positive stereotypes on a daily basis. These stereotypes are apparent within mainstream media. With today’s children having more access to media. now more than ever, they are subjected to these stereotypes at a young age (Adams-Bass, Bentley-Edwards, & Stevenson, 2014, n.p.). When blacks have more Afrocentric features like thick lips, bigger noses, or a darker skin tone, they are more likely to have a negative stereotype towards them (Conrad, Dixon, & Zhang, 2009, n.p.).
A hispanic female earns roughly 54 cents for every dollar earned by a white. This accounts for a loss of almost $24,000 in a year’s time. In 2012 the jobless rate was 10.3% for hispanics. This sense of personal rights among the African American women impairs their couple relationships. Most of the women get tired of the inequalities such as economic inequalities hence become independent to cope with such persistent inequality which often strains the black’s relationships. Most men are not committed to family life, neither are they able to maintain stable employments. Also, there are concerns of desertion, infidelity experiences and financial irresponsibility that reduces women’s desire to enter long-term unions such as marriages. As such, majority of black women fail to enter marriage institutions for fear of experiencing these above mentioned challenges.
Gender equality: the pinnacle concept that American society is not-so desperately trying to achieve. Many Americans have convinced themselves that gender equality was remedied by the Nineteenth Amendment and the Second Feminist Movement, and have not considered the thousands of steps that are left on the journey. In recent years, a matter of public interest has been the gender wage gap, stating that women are earning significantly less money than men for doing an equivalent amount of work. Critics of the effort to “break the glass ceiling” claim that a pay gap does not exist, and that if it does, it is because women either do not work as hard, have to tend to their families, or hold lower paying jobs. However, the gender pay gap has been proven to exist in a variety of different forms,
It may be 2018, but the gender pay gap is still here, why is that? Women have been and still are getting a lower pay than men to do the same job. Women are doing equal if not more work, but somehow make less. The following paragraphs will explain what is happening today like the fact that over time men 's pay increases more than women 's does. Besides that I will also mention that not just white women make less than men other cultures make even less than them, and I also will share real people speaking up about them being paid less than men.
