Law Enforcement Officer Goals

Goals, what are goals? Goals, for some, are the driving force that help people get out of bed in the morning. For others, it’s the objective that keeps them focused on attaining something they may initially not have thought possible. For me, my goal to become a law enforcement officer, is what keeps me pushing forward. I push forward through the struggles, the obstacles that are in my way. Even now as I write this essay, I’m pushing myself to new limits and learning that I’m capable of doing more than I originally thought possible.

So how am I going to do this? I will be doing this in two ways, numerically and measurably. I will quantify this goal with each completion of my classes towards my degree. Then I will measure my success and progress towards my goal by viewing my final grade each time I complete a class. The next thing I want to touch on is the achievability of my goal. I’m going to need some skills in order to full attain my goal. The most important skills that come to mind are policing skills, customer service skills and communication skills. All these skills I will be able to obtain through school and the police academy. To complete my goal and learn the skills necessary the environment should be conducive to the goal achievement. For me personally, I feel my environment is a perfect setting for my success. I have friends and family who are very supportive of my efforts. First, let’s start with relevancy. Is this goal in alignment with the overall strategy? Simply speaking, yes it is. My strategy is to gain some experience in law enforcement by working in the armed security field while I gain the knowledge I need through school. Now on to the time bound portion of this. What is the dead and is it achievable? The deadline I set for myself is within three years. The reason I say within three years and not just three years is, depending on where I am during my schooling I may opt to join and agency as I finish my schooling part time. Three years will give me plenty of time if I do decide to finish school first though before searching for a job. To be realistic, have I afforded myself the time necessary to complete my goal? With a resounding ‘yes’, I believe I have. I have taken into account the different scenarios that could and may pan out and at the end of each path three years is more than enough time, I feel, to accomplish what I have already set out to
