Relationships between police officers and the general public have been a roller coaster ride over the past 30 years, when it comes to the way some officers act when put in bad situations, or even if they are just acting out of anger. Melvin Russell explains in his speech that police officers need to do a better job of working with the public and treating them as if they are a customer. Russell has been a police officer himself for nearly 40 years, and is the Chief of the Community Partnership Division of the Baltimore Police Department. On September 16, 2016, our Careers in Criminal Justice class had the privilege of having Sergeant Kelby Newton and Detective Kate Quartarolo come speak to our class, about the different career opportunities that Roseville Police Department offers. Sergeant Newton has had a career in Law Enforcement for over 20 years and currently investigates property crimes. Detective Quartarolo has been in Law Enforcement for over 18 years, and she currently investigates crimes against people. To begin with, Sergeant Newton started by explaining to us the structure of his team and how each of his detectives are specifically ranked to investigate crimes that do not involve force or threat of force against an individual. State Trooper Career Law enforcement is a system by which members of society act in an organized manner to enforce the law and rules governed by society. By, investigating, rehabilitating, or punishing people who violate the rules and norms governing that society (Wikipedia). I will want to be a Maryland State Trooper agent. Being a Trooper agent will give me more opportunity to give back to my community and help protect and serve people of my country and my state. I’ve seen that there are many different types of Maryland law enforcement career opportunities from being a part of the local police officer to, larger field of federal agencies that are out there.
I have always had an interest in the criminal justice field, but my greatest influence was in the eighth grade when a police officer, Michael Owens, gave me my first ever West Virginia Legal Codes book. By giving me this book, he influenced me a lot. He showed me that I could do anything I set my mind and that he believed in me, just by giving me a simple book. Since then, I have committed to my decision of becoming a lawyer and is why I now take Criminal Justice courses at my local technical school.
My path to law school has began in my sophomore year of college, now I am ready for the challenges ahead with an eagerness to learn. I have discovered over the years that I embody the unique combination of activism, diligence, and courage beneficial for a legal career. I originally had an interest in pursuing a law degree as a student in the School of International and Public Affairs at Florida International University. At the time, I chose to major in criminal justice with the intention of becoming a defense attorney. However as I neared graduation I was not certain about a career as a defense attorney.
I want to work as a jail officer at the Wabash County Jail (WCJ), I want to work there because I feel like I would get a more hands on experience, I want to be able to interact with the inmates and actually get to understand them to become a jail officer I have to be 18 years of age to apply for a jail officer position. Be 21 years of age to apply for a Merit Deputy or Reserve Deputy. Possess a valid Indiana Driver’s License. I have to be of good character, appearance, and personality. I have to be able to perform the essential functions and requirements set forth in the position description.

First and foremost graduating on February 27th 2015 with Class 002 of The Massachusetts Trial Court Officer Academy has to be my initial goal. Without completing this academy all the additional personal goals I have set for myself will mean nothing. Setting personal goals is my way to achieve the hard to reach accomplishments I strive for. Although there may be one main objective, before I can reach it, I set many “step goals” to focus on along the way. My first set of “step goals” was the application, résumé, and interview process to which I sought out a person I knew whose job was to read résumés and conduct interviews for the company Lockheed Martin.
The American Revolution occurred between 1765 and 1783. Colonists in the thirteen american colonies had disagreements with the british monarchy and aristocracy. The American Revolution War was also known as the U.S. War of Independence. During these years Americans went through a series of battles and new laws and rules were set. During the American Revolution there were a lot of long term and short term causes, including economic factors, english political legacy, and foreign policy.
A career in policing requires an individual to meet a high standard for character and demonstrated behavior, in order to be developed into an effective officer. Succeeding in a police academy requires the candidate to display and apply integrity, a skill which must be developed before receiving admission. Integrity demonstrated through a police officer’s personal life, provides the foundation for a respected career. When presented with the opportunity to leverage a peace officer’s position for personal profit, an individual who has previously made selfless choices, is more reliable for operating within the law. Integrity as a term has the social implication of following ones beliefs, regardless of the opposition.
Ladies and Gentlemen: Before stating my intention about the course for which I seek admission to the St Joseph University Criminal Justice Program with emphasis in behavior analysis, I would like to take this opportunity to briefly introduce myself. I am an African immigrant of Liberian descent. I am the oldest of my parents seven children. The African tradition demands that I am just as responsible for the wellbeing of the family as my mother. At an early age, mother ingrained in me that education was an essential prerequisite to the empowerment I needed to fulfil my obligation to my immediate and extended families and myself.
Over the past three and a half years I have spent my life studying in school. I have studied for hours and hours about the field of criminal justice; the reason it exists, its history and development, theories that are used to explain topics in criminal justice, and cases that have been monumental in changing the way that criminal justice works. While all of these are great to learn about the field of criminal justice itself cannot be learned from reading textbooks and memorizing theories. This is why I am interested in an internship with the Griffin Police Department. I want to learn how the criminal justice system is in action, how things actually play out outside of the scholastic setting.
Many young people aspire to become police officers. However, not everyone is fit for the role as police work is extremely demanding both physically and mentally. In order to be effective in the job, a policeman should possess superb communication skills, extra-ordinary courage, excellent judgement, empathy, and a high degree of professionalism, to name a few. Choosing this career in law enforcement can be a quite challenging yet rewarding. If you aspire to join the police force, then you are bound to make a difference in your community as well as your own personal life.

They learn how to perform their jobs, as well as recognize the organizational norms, values, and culture, from their peers and supervisors. While supervisors provide direct, formal reinforcement, officers’ peers offer friendship and informal rewards that, in many cases, hold greater influence than official recognition from the agency’’ (Fitch, 2011). Officers who come across situations where they are unsure what is morally and ethically best to do often turn to their peers for assurance and guidance. Good ethical behavior can easily be influenced by officers and those in law enforcement.
