Lead·er n. a person that leads; it takes certain amounts of skills and determination to be an effective leader. I have always strived to be a leader, but struggled because I was so shy. As I grew older, met incredible people, and had amazing experiences, I became determined to overcome my own insecurities and develop leadership skills to help inspire others.

I have fond memories from my childhood, although I prefer those from home over the ones from school. I never struggled at school academically, but during my elementary years I was bullied by fellow classmates and soon developed severe social insecurities which set me back from my peers. I signed up for this inspirational leadership experience and learned how to step out of my comfort zone in order to grow as a person. HOBY showed me that every person is created as the steward of his or her own destiny, with great power for a specific purpose: to share with others, through service, a reverence for life in spirit of love. Soon afterward, the doors of opportunity opened everywhere for me. As a result, I decided to bring what I learned and apply it to my school and community through involvement in KAYS and Community Library for the Summer Reading Program. I have become well-known at school and in the community through these organizations. I wish to inspire others through my example of perseverance and determination. I want my story of personal insecurities, a determination to change, and perseverance to see it through to inspire many people, young or old, to never give up in the face of adversity, and always find ways to seek personal growth. Anyone can be a leader; it just takes the right situation to bring it out of a person. If someone was assuming a leadership position for the first time, I advise them to follow Gandhi's teachings and be the change they want to see in the world.
