According to King’s College, leadership skills can be developed and learned by all. This may not, however, make an effective leader. An effective leader demands respect, is well liked by the people he is leading, and has a vision or purpose for his group. An effective leader demands respect.
The Age of Enlightenment was a huge change for the people of Europe. It occurred between the late 1600s and 1700s, and changed the way people thought. Monarchs were encouraged to lead with progressive intentions and to enforce the basic human rights of all of their people. to become more equal with their people. These monarchs were called Enlightened Despots.
The first way the enlightenment ideas influenced the United States Government was when the Declaration of Independence was written. The Declaration of Independence has the main task of basically protecting our natural rights. The natural rights idea came from Locke and was later transformed into the Declaration of Independence. Natural rights are basically Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. The second main idea that influenced our U.S Government to me is the federal system.
George Washington was born on February 22, 1732, in westmoreland, Virgina and was is one of our founding fathers also was our first president of United States of American. George Washington president terms were (1789-1797) and our president fought in the Revolutionary war (1775-1783) also Washington command the Continental army in the war. Our first president George Washington impact the Enlightement by thinking a vision for educating system for the people in the Untied sates so they can get the education that people need in the U.S.A. The first thing that George washington did to impact the Enlightement was writing letters to people telling them idea's to help educate young people and he got his ideas from a line in a presrciption of George Turnbull.
What Makes an Effective Leader? There are leaders all around you and you probably did not even know it. A leader is a person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country. This could be parents, teachers, or the president of a country.
In chapter three we learned about the colonies and how they were established and what aspects of development helped the colonies thrive. In the discussion one of the topics we were asked to discuss about asks what two things united the colonies and colonists in North America. During the seventeenth and eighteenth century in North America there were two events that occurred that unified the colonists and colonies. They were the Enlightenment and The Great Awakening. These events gave the people of the colonies to have logical/ intelligent questions, individual freedom, and religious freedom.
First and foremost, leaders come in all shapes and forms, there is not one set physical mold for them, but what they all do share are certain characteristics and desires. Leadership in and of itself, is the ability to guide others, take responsibility, and share a vision that inspires and leaves others with a sense of empowerment. Evidently, it takes an exceptional leader to exhibit exceptional leadership skills. Additionally, the most prominent act that all adequate leaders demonstrate is that they are steadily engaged in enhancing their leadership skills. There have been various magnificent leaders throughout history, such as Martin Luther King Jr., Sojourner Truth, Nelson Mandela, and Eleanor Roosevelt.
The eighteenth century saw a host of social, religious, and intellectual changes across the British Empire. While the Great Awakening promoted and emphasized emotional religiosity, the Enlightenment promoted the power of reason and scientific observation. Both of these movements had a lasting impact on the colonies (Schultz, 2014). These movements had an impact on the American lifestyle that still exists today.
Europe during the late 1600s through the 1700s was filled with new thinkers, known as “philosophes”, and new ideas. The philosophes were not held back by the beliefs of tradition or superstition. They believed in science, progress, liberty, and the freedom of speech. From these new ideas, which (for the most part) originated in Paris, France, came a period known as “the Enlightenment” and thus from this period emerged a new group of rulers known as the “Enlightened Despots”. A despot was an absolute ruler who usually exercised their power in a cruel or harsh manner.

The most common element is motivating others and keep on stimulating the desire and energy into people to continually interest and committed to attain a goal. According to our studies, the Enlightenment was a movement that prioritized the human capacity for reason as the highest form of human attainment (Lecture Insert Cite). The Enlightenment originally began in Europe and found it 's way to the colonies. Before the Enlightenment, people had always believed that the social class in which they were born into would be the one in which they would die. People would follow their leader 's words without daring to question them and believed that when they died they would either face eternal salvation or eternal damnation. There was no room for thought.
Leadership has been defined in a variety of ways, there are multiple authors and theorists who have tried to define and understand leadership, all leading to varying theories and conclusions, but one thing that is universally understood is the importance of effective leadership and how someone with good leadership skills can impact so many people around them. (Kakabadse and Kakabadse, 1999; Yukl, 2002; Northouse,2013) The main components that have been identified to play a role in leadership are relations between leader and subordinates, interaction form between leader and followers, the influence that the leader has, the way in which the leader behaves and finally a leader’s traits. (Yukl, 2002) These elements that make up a leader, are then used as building blocks to identify the way in which each specific leader deals with its followers.
In developing this paper on leadership, I examined what was most important to me as a leader. As I reflected on my leadership philosophy, I thought about my experiences and the principals that I have learned through my own self-discovery and the observation of other leaders that I have had throughout my life. My leadership philosophy paper will focus on what leadership is to me, core values, and knowledge of others. In thinking about my definition of leadership, I thought of what was most important to me in and as a leader.
In fact, leadership is an art rather than a science. The process of learning leadership is a hand-on experience, which focuses on practice instead of concepts itself. This course provides me a chance to gain more insight about leadership and it helps me develop my new image of leadership.
