In the past Human Resource (HR) department would sift through resumes for selection, today the selection process has changed forever. Organizations are looking beyond the resume to determine if this person will be the right fit for the organization, by utilizing the advancements of technology and the internet. HR has many tools to choose from to employ, that are capable of determine a persons’ personality type, behavior measures, such as emotional intelligence, and resume key word scans. In many organizations drug testing are becoming more frequent and are a requirement. Currently with the labor pool ever shrinking and organizations struggling to find talent, it is important that an organization finds the right person for their organization (Cascio, p. 239, 2016).

Grooming potential leaders is a process that requires years. Developing leaders with strategic vision, developing those who can implement strategy successfully, are two critical challenges for every chief executive. The best organizations are consciously strategic in their leadership planning. This ties human resources department activities directly to the business strategy. In todays’ world developing people are becoming a smart goal in executive performances. To avoid a future crisis in leadership succession the organizations sitting chief operating executive understands the importance of leadership succession. Leadership should encourage difference in opinion, giving rising stars room to disagree with management decisions.
