This interview was conducted on November 8, 2016, with Vicky, lead advocate for the Safehouse Crisis Center, at her office in Pittsburg. To Vicky, leadership means leading by example in all areas that define her job. She stated, to be a good leader, one should be able to make good, critical, and productive decisions without fear of upsetting others. Strengths of a good leader consist of leading by example and having the ability to problem-solve and apply critical thinking. She stated never be afraid to say, “I do not know the answer” but be willing to seek and find the answer. Another strength is surround yourself with people who can do their job well and confidently, so you can do what is necessary to be a leader. A good leader is always honest …show more content…

She explained that others should show empathy to those abused. She reasoned that till one has been abused how can they really know what abuse is about. She made the statement of “Walking in the abused shoes.” Vicky’s leadership is style is laid back and non-demanding. The most important thing in her leadership position is confidentiality and gaining the trust of others in her competence. She has learned to be good at getting her point across without being abrasive. This is important for those who have trouble taking good criticism. To Vicky, making a list of her priorities is a must, for her to be productive. It keeps her from going in circles and accomplishing nothing. She said she takes each problem as it arises, then applies her ability to prioritize. One important item to remember is always learn from past experiences. A good leader is always be aware that each person is an individual. What works for one person may not work for another person. Each problem is unique. Each person is unique. To be successful, one needs to remember uniqueness in all aspects of decision making and problem
