Personal Strengths
My experience as a wrestling coach, military leader and manager in a large global company has prepared me for many different scenarios and situations. I do my best to stay ahead of changes and be as prepared as possible. It has been said by many before and smarter than me, but I believe that organization and communication are two of the most needed skills when leading others. As business evolves and becomes more global, the need for detailed, immediate and correct information is required now more than ever. Having the understanding that what is needed in one location might not always be needed or wanted in another. My understanding of this need is one strength that has done me well in past positions. If leaders today, incorporated this into their leadership, we would have a world with much better run companies. The past eight weeks has been all about understanding what it takes to be a leader and how to use that to motivate your teams. My second strength is the ability to organize. Taking the information, processes or plans and putting them into situation that will show the best return can only benefit everyone involved. Minimizing the opportunity for error or misinformation not only makes the process run smoother, but also promotes a happy employee or team. My last strength is excellent communication skills. My past experiences have assisted me in becoming a well-rounded communicator depending on the situation. I have since looked at different options that could be open to me if I take what I learned here and adapt it to my company’s needs. How do I get there from here? If I utilize examples from the career center I can make my plan of development as I do my strategic plans in production. I need to start by looking at all positions that would fit my wants and work well with my strengths. I could perform a S.W.O.T analysis to see what areas that I could focus on to open up additional avenues within the company. If I ever left this industry, I do not plan on getting back in. I would like to look into careers that would fulfill my wants more than my needs.
Adjusting my focus and branching outside of my box would definitely open up other opportunities that I had not thought of. I am in a position that I would need to take into account more of the items listed in the career center, but I could hold out more for the things that are important to me (see Appendix B). Having that ability is definitely new to me, but very exciting. So my path is more open now than it has been for at least the last fifteen years.
