Leadership is a principal theme in Lord Of The Flies as it shows how being a leader is difficult and how society can crumble, effortlessly. It also implicitly explains how societies need leadership; it is the pillar that holds society from crumbling down. To be a leader isn’t that hard. However, to be a leader with the following qualities, makes them a strong one: inner strength, to be mature, confident and courageous; clarity, to be clear and straightforward; discipline, to be able to be strict and tell people off for things they shouldn’t be doing or saying, without doubt. The following forge the definition of inner strength: maturity, confidence and courage. Ralph is a lot more mature than Jack. This is recognised in the book, as Ralph cares about the long term (being rescued) “And sooner or later a ship will put in here. It might even be Daddy's ship. So you see, sooner or later, we shall be rescued”. This shows that Ralph is determined for a ship to come and get them off island and he wants those on the island to believe it too.
