In chapters 4-5 of the novel, Lord of the Flies by William Golding, shows the differences of the two boys Jack and Ralph wanting to be the leader. Ralph, the protagonist of the story, is the epitome of civilization. Throughout the novel, he tries to maintain order, democracy, and a sense of morality on the island. He starts by building huts, making a conch shell, and setting up rules and regulations. He said, "We've got to have rules and obey them. After all, we're not savages. We're English, and the English are best at everything" . This quote showcases Ralph's belief in civilization and the importance of maintaining order and obedience to rules.
