We know a leader is someone who commands a group. But what exactly makes a leader a good one? In the Lord Of The Flies, a novel by WIlliam Golding, it involves a conflict between two boys who are stranded on an island fighting for leadership over a group of boys. One of the leaders known as Ralph is logic based, with the intention of getting off the island. The other leader is known as Jack who’s leadership style is based on pleasure, with the main intention of hunting. In this essay I will argue that Ralph is the superior leader because of the comfort he offers his tribe. Some individuals will object and state that Jack is the finer leader because of the enjoyment and thrill made by hunting, but I will oppose by saying that logic over pleasure always has a finer outcome. …show more content…

Ralph shows an interest in his tribe's survival when he compassionately says “A fire! Make a fire!”(38). This shows that since day one Ralph has been taking care of the tribe’s well being by making a fire to help them withstand the cold night on the island. One example of Ralph’s compassion when the tribe is worried is when he assertively said “We want to be rescued; and of course we shall be rescued.”(37). This concisely shows that Ralph cares about the group of boys by reassuring them that everything will turn out fine.
