In marching band, it takes a lot of dedication. If someone is going to be in marching band, they will have to put in the time and the effort. Marching bands everywhere practice for hours in the heat; always memorizing their spots on the field, their music, and their visual effects. Everything about band is stressful because it constantly cuts in on a band members social life, but after they perform they will feel great. In most marching bands, the motto is one band one sound, meaning that a band member needs to show leadership, responsibility, and teamwork.
Leadership
In most high school bands, there is a leader for every section. For example, the flute section has a leader, the saxophone section has a leader, or the tuba section has a leader. Teamwork is really just making sure every band member has all of their parts down, and trying their very best at every practice and performance. As my band director always said “if one improves, the whole band improves.” If a band member has their duties completed, they should help someone else who is struggling with theirs. Teamwork can lead to better performances in the future.
Conclusion
The reason why most marching bands motto is one band one sound is because each band member needs to show leadership, responsibility, and teamwork. By doing this a band will have a unique sound, will have a better attitude, and will always perform very well.
