Imagination is an idea or concept which is constantly influenced by personal experiences and developmental growth. When analyzing fact and imagination, let it be noted that fact is an unchangeable piece of evidence, whereas imagination can have a vast majority of endless possibilities. Many talented minds who have based their careers on fact have stressed the importance of imagination and its ability to expand the mind. The quote “The world is but a canvas to the imagination”(Henry David Thoreau) explains that imagery is a useful tool when the world feels bland and ordinary. The education system is based on facts, but one cannot teach or be taught the value of forming different ideas and using creativity. People are often handed unforgiving lives and scenarios and strike at the first glimmer of hope they receive, that is what imagination is; What happens next in life is up to that person and that person only. “Leaf by Niggle” by J.R.R Tolkien, is a perfect example of the use of imagination. Niggle is physically incapable of painting but he soon comes to the realization that he can imagine he is in the painting. This realization suggests that one does not have to be able to do something, people can use their minds to accomplish it. “Weslandia” by Paul Fleischman shows the benefits of the use of imagination. In Weslandia, Wesley is an outcast so he spends the summer creating a world of his own called Weslandia.
