How do George and Lennie's friendship explored and looked throughout the novel? The theme of friendship is explored many times throughout the novel. When their out looking for jobs, George tells Lennie that they will get through it together. When someone speaks to Lenny, George interrupts to talk for him. George says once they get to the boss, he's going to do all the talking and Lennie is not going to speak.
“Sure, right now. I gotta. We gotta.” And George raised the gun and steadied it, and he brought the muzzle of it close to the back of Lennie’s head. The hand shook violently, but his face set and his hand steadied.
Lennie and George have a close friendship. They have this friendship because George has always been there for Lennie helping him out when he gets into problems with people. On section one of the book George told Lennie ¨Hide in the bushes till I come for you. Can you remember that?¨ (page 15) This shows how George cared for Lennie because he was trying to protect him and as well he tried to keep him out of trouble.
This reinforces his childlike and innocent characterization. Things take a turn when Curley picks on Lennie, causing a fight to break out. Lennie is afraid of what to do and looks to George for help. George tells him to fight back which leads Lennie to injure Curley. This reveals the loyalness Lennie has to George, which is always prominent because George is always guiding him.
Although the action of George shooting Lennie in the back of the head in the novel “Of Mice and Men,” is absolutely heart wrenching, I completely support George’s decision and action, for he was providing protection for Lennie, himself and others. First of all, throughout the novel we notice that Lennie’s violent behaviour had been escalating higher and higher, eventually reaching the point where he killed a woman. It started simply with killing mice, then crushing Curley’s hand, then killing a puppy, and finally rose to the extreme point in which he murdered a human being. If somehow George had escaped with Lennie instead of choosing to end Lennie’s life, knowing that this pattern of violence would continue, it is probable that he could
George shouldn’t be so mean to Lennie because he doesn’t understand things like George. In chapter one George says “‘come on, give it here” (Steinbeck5). when Lennie was petting the dead mouse. It shows how George doesn’t let Lennie have anything that isn’t bothering George. In chapter one also George says “Blubbernin’ like a baby!”
When Curley heard about the murder, he was going to cage Lennie in jail and lynch him. George realizes this and does not want his friend to undergo the disgrace; he takes Lennie out of pain like Candy’s old dog to avoid future suffering. George carries through with his plan to kill his friend so Lennie does not face Curley’s wrath. The option of negotiating the consequences for the murder is not possible due to Curley’s aversion towards Lennie’s strength and towering size. Curly would certainly get dishonorable revenge for their previous fight.
Acting out and performing a character’s role in a play is already difficult enough to begin with. But to be able to portray that character in front of hundreds of people, now that’s impressive. The Springer Opera House did just that with the character Lennie Smalls in one of their reenactments of “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck. While sitting there and watching the play, I could really feel the amount of work put into trying to portray Lennie as close as possible to the version in the book. First of all, let’s talk about his size.
Imagine having a mental disability at a time of the Great depression and having no one to guide you. Likely, there is George to help you to your determined path towards your dream. Lennie who suffers from a mental disease, has George to guide him. Being together since they were young, watching out for each other and striving, together, to reach their daring goal to own a ranch. Not everyone can do so!
Everyone has that one friend that they could never get rid of, never abandon. They may get mad but they will never stop being friends they’ll hug it out or yell it out. That’s how the two main characters from the novel Of Mice and Men act. George a simple farm hand deliberately sacrifices his his time and money to help take care of and assist his friend Lennie. This responsibility has made georges val;ues as a person stand out.
(pg. 22). Since Lennie is mentally challenged and can’t think fast enough, he relies on George to tell him what to do. Curley had turned on Lennie by punching him; and protect himself, Lennie had grabbed Curley’s hand and crushed with his own hand. Lennie felt bad for what he did so George
This shows Lennie’s friendship with George because he is so excited to see him and talk about all of the things they are going to do. Real friends are the best friends. I think that friendship played an important role in this book. Without friendship Lennie and George would have never of made it this far. Curly’s wife had also played a major role, she could have ratted Lennie and George out for breaking her husband’s hand.
We all have those times in our life that we regret. In the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, there are many things that end in a bad way. Lennie has an intellectual disability because he does not understand much of what people say, and he has his friend George take care of him. George and Lennie have known each other since they were children. He can not live without George because George tells him what to do and protects him.
Over the past years grizzly bear have been going extinct, this is because hunters go out and kill this amazing animal. People claim that hunting these “beast” supply food and others say that they kill for population control. This paper will talk about how there are big game hunters who are causing grizzly bears to become extinct, which means there is no reason for population control on these animals. Hunting for grizzly bears should not be allowed. Grizzly bear hunting is being treated as a sport and should be stopped.
When Curly slugged Lennie in his face and Lennie doesn't do anything so, George said "Get him Lennie, Don't let him do it." When Lennie took Curly's hand away from his face and looked about for George. Curly had slashed at Lennie's eye and his face was covered with blood. George yelled at Lennie "I said get him (63). " Both of these examples suggest George doesn't want Lennie to get beat up and he rather get in trouble and lose his job.
