As the poem that Edgar Allen Poe had written in a ballad form of eighteen/6-lined stanza, “The Raven,” is notable as one of a dramatic emphasis, also one of America's favorite poem, students as well as teachers enjoy this poem; it holds such suspense in the first person’s view, almost like a nightmare. With predominating ABCBBB end rhyme scheme, and several uses of an internal rhyme, Poe emphasizes the word, “Nevermore-” the loss of his love Lenore taunts the unnamed narrator throughout the poem until he could reunite with Lenore, as he grieves for his love.

Dwelling on “nevermore,” not returning to see the loss of his dear Lenore. The narrator's perceive the appearance of angels from above, while drinking a magic potion, the narrator was beginning to suspect that the purpose for the arrival of the raven was to cleanse and help the narrator forget the sorrows that he carried on his shoulders. As the angels arrived the narrator thought to himself in hopes they will spare his despair and grief. Although, the 14th stanza clearly identified that the word: “quaff” means to drink: “nepenthe” which is known as a drug that was used in ancient times to manipulate people into forgetting their sorrows. Stanzas (15-18) the narrator asking many questions, such as, “Am I going to see Lenore again?” Following by asking if the bird is evil, then asks if it had brought a healing potion, for the narrator, and all the raven answered was again the word “nevermore.” Commanding the bird to leave, using the same word the bird says without hesitation “nevermore.” Surprised again by the negative response of the raven, as he is sitting while overshadowing the narrator, whose soul will never reach happiness again, because the raven's’ shadow symbolizes darkness and sadness, that covers the narrator's’ soul, meaning he will never see happiness
