Ponce De Leon was known for his hard work, ambitiousness, and ruthlessness. He is also known for when he built a small financial empire that helped advance spanish colonization in the Caribbean.

Before his North American voyages, it’s possible that he voyaged to Brazil, around 1533. Then he embarked on his first voyage In 1534. During that expedition, he explored Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island and the Gulf of St Lawrence. His second and most important expedition was in 1534, where he mapped out the interior of the Gulf of St Lawrence. There were 110 people on that expedition and 3 medium-sized boats were taken with them.
Ponce De Leon was searching for the "Fountain of Youth in St. Augustine, Florida. De Leon thought that because of the name of the fountain, it would bring youth to all and he would stay alive forever. One other thing that he searched for was, gold. Christopher Columbus was one of the greatest explorers known to man. Columbus had many different reasons for his explorations. Later, the main reason for his explorations was selfishness. Juan Ponce de León has been killed by natives on his voyage as according to his crew who has arrived back. He was to colonize the land, which he did. However, he needed to conquer the land and take it from the natives. He brought about 50 soldiers with him and many weapons. However, it seems that the European weapons that they brought were less effective for close-range fighting and they were forced to retreat.

The contract signed with the monarchs made Columbus the governor of any land that he would discover giving him the power he desired.
