Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill was born on November 30th, 1874 at the Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, UK. Churchill was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945, and again from 1951 to 1955. In fact, Churchill was very popular during his times of authority. During these times, you could practically ask somebody in the street and they would know right away who Churchill was. The reasoning for this can be seen in many different examples. He was resilient, courageous, and optimistic. In times of what had seemed like a downfall, Churchill always knew that there would be some way to pull himself out of the dirt. This operation commenced on June 6th, 1944. It was the largest amphibious invasion to ever take place. The Allied Forces consisted of the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Free France, Poland, Australia, Free Belgian Forces, New Zealand, Netherlands, Norway, Free Czechoslovak Forces, and Greece. Allied Forces rehearsed their roles for months before this invasion. In fact, during one of these exercises, a German torpedo boat caught this group by guard. Over 638 soldiers were killed. The Allied Forces also conducted an attempt to deceive Germany. Operation Fortitude was aimed at misleading the Germans with the date and place of the invasion. A few days after the invasion had started, more than three million Allied troops were in France by the end of August. In this specific invasion, the Allied Forces invaded Normandy and pushed German forces back into Germany over the coming year. After the Germans were attacked on three fronts by the Allied Forces, despite several of the Allied Forces’ failures, Germany was eventually defeated.
