The Copperheads were a group of Northern Democrats from (1860 - 1868) that wanted to restore slavery and have peace with the Confederates. The Copperheads were terrible people because they wanted to end the civil war at all cost, Confederates refused to give up their independence, and the Copperheads didn’t support President Abraham Lincoln. The effects they had the war in trying to sabotage the union, there are outspoken hatred of the President Abraham Lincoln & their different groups and leaders. They participated in Abraham Lincolns assassination. When the Copperheads found out they were being tricked they had to regain there "strength from the ranks of those who objected to Lincoln’s abrogation of civil liberties and those who simply wanted an end to the massive bloodshed" as it say in "Copper heads political history". The people who didn't listen to Lincoln during this war strengthened the Copperheads the more people they got to go against Lincoln in the war. As the war was progressed on Robert E. Emancipation was one issue that the Republican and Democratic parties were fiercely divided on. Extreme conservative Democrats believed that abolitionists had shaped the political ideology of the Republican Party". (britianan.com) They would be divided up. Causing the Copperheads to have their own will and say so what ever they wanted was their desire. "The author from the book (Civil War) I read believes that the Copperheads’ ultimate failure was not necessarily due to the outcome of the war, but their inability to rally supporters and create any solutions to the problems and injustices they so often complained about". Because of the lack of knowledge and power the Copperheads had an inability to win causing them to owe although they were gaining tons of people from the run they were on it wasn't enough they still did t have enough evidence. The Copperheads ended up losing the war and the republicans won. There plans had went down the drain and so did slavery; therefore slavery was abolished and slavery is now over any caught owning slaves we'll be thrown in jail because at this time slavery is now illegal and the Northern had won the
