Cotton Mather’s letter is addressed to John Foster where he voices his worries about insufficient evidence to convict someone against witchcraft. His main point is that the devil himself is the source of the illness. The devil generally causes mayhem against those who are innocent. Due to the fact, that the devil is the source of the illness, those accused of witchcraft aren’t liable as they are being possessed by him. He believes that God is leaning more into the colony’s favor by having judges that understand that the devil is the source of the suffering.
William Mason Grosvenor took issue with the illegal secession of the Confederate States and why they were able to possess all their constitutional rights as member states of the United States. He believed that the Northern states had the right to dictate social changes in the Southern states, on the foundation that the South was practicing laws that disregarded the Nation’s Constitutional laws. Grosvenor argues that because the North won the Civil War, that they have the right to enforce Northern laws upon the Southern states. Others like Herman Melville, argue that the North should provide a humane and range-free reconstruction policy on the Southern states. (Dudley 9).

Although he is not under “tyrannical thralldom” or “inhuman captivity,” Banneker has brethren who are.
Imagine that you get the opportunity of a lifetime. A chance to get away from your country which is currently in economical depression. A chance to live a new life in a new place, where the economy is high, and there is no poverty. Imagine having this amazing opportunity, yet, having to leave your family behind. You begin to miss them and long for them until you absolutely cannot stand it any more and you begin to write a letter to your wife (or husband) in order to try and persuade her to come with your children to your new home to be with you.

In his letter Johnson rejected a mother’s obscured request for her sons help into a university. His denial to her is best used by his strong use of logos, pathos and tone. In the beginning, Johnson reveals pure emotion to the mother waiting for the letter.

Civil rights leader and social activist Martin Luther King Jr. wrote a world renown correspondence, Letter From Birmingham Jail, in April of 1963, during a time when segregation was at it’s peak in the South. When King was making his mark in American history, the United States was experiencing great social unrest due to the injustice towards their colored citizens, which would lead to social rights rallies and unnecessary violence. In response to King’s peaceful protesting, the white community viewed “[his] nonviolent efforts as those of an extremist,” and subsequently imprisoned the pastor (para 27). King specifically wrote to the white clergymen who had earlier addressed a letter to him as to why he was apprehended, in which they argued that his actions were untimely and unconstitutional. In response, King emphasized that justice is never timely, and the refusal to acknowledge equal rights was inhumane and regressive.
Dear Members of the Jury, I am writing you this letter to tell to you that Tom Robinson should be proven not guilty. This case would have never happened if the truth would have been told and it wasn’t a case between black and white. There are many ways that Robinson is not guilty. One of these reasons that Tom Robinson is not guilty is that if you listened to the Sheriff 's testimony he stumbled frequently and when he said something and then Atticus would say something different he would agree with Atticus. Tom Robinson is a very polite man with great manners, which you could take into consideration that he wouldn’t dare hurt this woman in this kind of manner.

Lejla Hodzic Mrs.Monroe English III(H): Period 3 Journal Reflection-MP1 When first writing in my journal I struggled with how deep to go with my discussion questions and what I should be asking my classmates. I feel that I have struggled with this because I lack confidence on what I am trying to prove or say in my writing. When reading in the past I have never pushed myself to question the author’s purpose or ask questions that invoke much thought. Up to this point in the year writing in my journal as well as annotating in the text, has helped my reading and writing immensely.
Imagine being in a room full of people, but no one talks or looks at each other. In fact, each person is plugged to a machine. This is how technology has affected society. Some people believe that technology has begun to manipulate our brains, while others claim it is taking intimacy from our relationships. The writers, Nicholas Carr and Sherry Tunkle, explain in their articles how internet use is affecting the way humans think and feel.
