A disorder of the skeletal system that I chose to talk about is leukemia. Leukemia is defined as a malignant progressive disease in which the bone marrow and other blood-forming organs produce increased numbers of immature or abnormal leukocytes. These suppress the production of normal blood cells, leading to anemia and other symptoms. White blood cells are usually involved with leukemia. White blood cells protect the boys immune system and fight infection. They normally grow and divide in an orderly way but in people with leukemia, the bone marrow produces abnormal white blood cells. There are many types of leukemia that exist. Some forms are more common in children and others occur mostly in adults. Some symptoms include, but not limited …show more content…
This is the cancer of the bone marrow and the blood. It progresses rapidly without treatment and affects mostly cells that are not fully developed. This type of leukemia can be very difficult to treat. Another type of leukemia is chronic lymphocytic leukemia. this is a type of blood cancer that begins in the bone marrow, which can progress very slow or very quick depending on the form it takes. There are 2 different types of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. The slower-growing form has an increased number of lymphocytes but a normal level of red cells, platelets, and neutrophils in the blood. The faster-growing form has too many chronic lymphocytic leukemia cells in the blood that block normal cell production. There are many more types of leukemia but I chose to only share those 3. I honestly did not pick a good resource to use to have a decent opinion or summary on it. When i first started this discussion topic, I had no idea that leukemia was a disease of the skeletal system. I read many different articles about leukemia but I had no idea there were so many forms of it. I go to church with this elderly woman and she has had leukemia for a couple years now. I always thought there was only one kind of leukemia but now I am genuinely curious about the form that she has. I learned a lot of things about leukemia throughout this discussion
