Omaha, Nebraska is probably a town you’ve heard of, famous for it’s Steaks, zoo, and it’s huge Centurylink Center. Located in the Eastern part of Nebraska, it is the largest city with a population of a heaping 434,353 citizens as of the 2013 census. Omaha is not just a city full of businessmen, it is also home to some of the most successful farmers and other people in the ag career. In the early 1800s Lewis and Clark set out on their expedition to explore the Louisiana Purchase for Thomas Jefferson. They were the first recorded American visit, besides the Native Americans that lived there. Lewis and Clark recorded “ this area would make a good location for a trading and military post” in their journals. As they came back from their journey, citizens started moving west and settling in Omaha because they wanted a new life as mormons or just a fresh start. …show more content…

In the 1840s an exposure to malnutrition and sickness had overtaken Florence, a neighborhood in Omaha. 700 citizens had perished due to it and the neighborhood had been abandoned. Many people packed up their belongings and moved to “the promised land” near the Great Salt Lake in Utah. Today all that remains of Florence is historical sites such as the mill and cemetery. Omaha’s population has increased over the years because of its at home feeling and attractions. Henry Doorly Zoo is a family attraction in Omaha that brings in children, parents, grandparents, and couples everyday. It started out as Riverview Park back in 1894, with only a few animals such as bears and deer. Sixty-nine years later a donation of $750,000 had been given to the park by Margaret Doorly. The park then decided to change its name to Henry Doorly Zoo after Margret’s husband who had recently died before
