Lewis Carroll Research Paper

There are lots of British authors who are passionate about writing and composing. Thus, there is one author who nonsensically and uniquely wrote poetry out of his extraordinary background and experiences. The poetry of Lewis Carroll, which was influenced by personal background and by the Victorian literary period, has contributed to the American literary heritage. First, Lewis Carroll’s writing was influenced by his personal background because of the environment and people that he had been growing up with. According to a British biographer,

Roger Green, “He loved the company of children, whom he told many stories. He was especially fond of little girls, but it isn’t true that he disliked boys and babies. Alice Liddell was one of his favorite child-friend.”

Carroll really seemed to enjoy his child-friends’ company despite their huge age gap. Moreover, Carroll was known as someone who suffered from Insomnia. Consequently, he spent his time at night to read and write lots of humorous letters to his child-friends. The passion and love of writing amusing letters somehow inspired him to include nonsensical poems called Jabberwocky into his beloved Alice’s stories:

Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland. The poem, Jabberwocky, contained plentiful of gibberish words that Alice and readers were left to see the poem as a tale of something strange and bewildering. Ironically, Jabberwocky is the most significant and popular poem of Carroll regardless of its nonsense words and phrases.

Secondly, Carroll’s writing was also influenced by the Victorian literary movement because of its powerful femininity during the period. Female dominance was displayed in

Carroll’s writing since he was living during the Victorian Era, which was reigned by Queen

Victoria. Carroll was initially inspired by how powerful femininity was, and yet there were no authors composing any works to display how strong was feminism movement.
