For the most part, much of mankind has been taught to believe only in the Holy Spirit of God, Jesus Christ, and other envoys. We are told that the Holy Ghost will dwell within us, and by being saved or becoming Christians we will ultimately get to live with God for all eternity after He returns to earth. Our spiritual entity is not fully recognized, and we are told that the spirit of God will dwell within our hearts if we follow His rules, and then we will earn the reward of living eternally after He returns to save those that have followed His law of love. The message is simple: we are spirits residing in human bod- ies temporarily. Death is but the demise of the human body, not the destruction of the entire person. In recent years, people have stud- ied the phenomenon of life after death. Raymond A. Moody Jr. approached the subject in his book entitled “Life after Life.” In speaking of death, he states: “If we are to talk of death at all, then we must avoid both social taboos and the deep-seated linguistic dilemmas, which derive from our own experiences. What we often end up doing is talking in euphemistic analogies.” He goes on to state, “Perhaps the most common analogy of this type is the comparison between death and sleeping. Dying, we tell ourselves, is like going to sleep. This figure of speech occurs very commonly in everyday thought and language, as well as in the literature of many cultures and many ages.” (Moody 1975, pp. 16) Even though mankind has put forth an effort to explain the phenomenon of spirits, we are still left with a void instead of an adequate answer.
