Within our lives, we go through many phases of emotion. These emotions can be happy, sad, good, bad, lovely, terrible, etc. However, the emotions we face throughout our life make us who we are today. They shape our character and help us through difficult times. Emotions are a very beautiful thing, however, they also can be destructive. In the novel, Like Water For Chocolate, emotions are what the novel revolves around. The emotions of passion, heartache, sadness, and joy shape Tita, but also destroy her. Her emotions counteract with the events presented in the novel. Every chapter starts with a new recipe made by Tita. Food makes people feel the emotions of love, sadness, anger, happiness, etc. Depending on how Tita feels when she is cooking, it will ultimatley affect the taste. When Tita's sister and her long lost love Pedro get married, Tita is in charge of making the wedding cake. Tita is absolutlely heartbroken and puts all of her passion into making this cake. When Tita is making this cake, her tears overwhelm the taste, making people hate it. The joy of eating the wedding cake was ruined due to the emotion Tita put into her cake. Another food instance is when Roberto is born. Tita is overwhelmed with love that she cannot express it. In fact, she loves him so much, she was able to produce breast milk for him. Tita was so passionate about the baby that now she is able to produce food for him. One last instance of food is when Tita cooks for Gertrudis. After Gertrudis eats, she is filled with arosoual.
