Christopher Jefferson R. Woodson Music Appreciation 11 December 2015 Final Dwayne “Lil Wayne” Michael Carter, Jr. was born September 27, 1982 in New Orleans, LA. He was born in a city known for its jazz, swing, and blues music. He began rapping at 8. Dwayne was signed to a record label Cash Money. Since being signed Dwayne has not only made a stamp on hip hop but has also made music of other genres to include but not limited to, R&B rock and pop. His music has influenced other artists of today. Not only that but he continues to be relevant in music no matter the times. Dwayne’s music is nothing if not trend setting. Not many hip hop artists have the talent of being able to transition smoothly into different genres. He not only chooses different Genres but he blends them. Because of the fact Dwayne was originally a rapper, you can say that it is a part of who he is. He takes that personality and uses it to bring multiple genres together. His music was a form of acculturation. It opened doors for more genres to mix. His music also made it more acceptable to say you were just an artist instead of having to explain what genre you were a part of. …show more content…

He has music that uses live bands. Some songs are just full of auto-tune that sound purely artificial. He has a few songs that sound a little like electronic music. His music can sometimes be symbolic because you have to think about the meanings behind what he’s saying. The words coming out of his mouth don’t always make the most sense but when you think hard you sometimes realize it meant something more. Like a lot of rappers though Dwayne is influenced by the musicians that came before him. He uses samples and pieces from older soul musicians as well as famous music from other genres. He isn’t shy to giving homage to those who were successful in the music industry, especially those who helped him personally become the artist he is
