In the story the secret life of bees the main character is Lily Owens. She is 14 years old and lives with her father T-Ray and caretaker Rosaleen. When Lily was just 4 years old she had accidentally shot her mother by trying to hand her the gun while her dad was abusing her mother. Now, 10 years later, she still feels the guilt and sorrow of her mother's death weighing her down. I admire Lily’s courage and kindness. She always stands up for what she believes in and she doesn’t let people get in the way of her finding more about her mom. In the story each event shows another way that lily is showing courage and kindness. He would never tell her about her mom even though she asked so that is why she left to Tiburon with Rosaleen. She knew she could find out more about her mom if she went there. When she first arrived August Boatwright, a honey farmer, noticed something special about Lily. I'm not coming home with you I'm staying here with the Boatwrights.”. Then August began to say that Lily could stay and start school in Tiburon.
