Rose’s Run by Dawn Dumont is an excellent book that is about a character named Rose Okanese who has to tackle many life problems after her husband cheats on her as well as leaves her and her two daughters. This book takes place in a reserve located in Saskatchewan in modern day Canada. The author did a fantastic job at describing every little detail in the scenes which really helps the reader imagine what was in the setting. One good example of a description is “Rose stood on her front steps looking at the moody sky. Nightfall was coming on and she was dreading it....
When the author used these unique story structures, it really helped the story flow better and it cause the reader to think deeper about the story because it shows the letters and emails and how the protagonists, Martin and Caitlin, communicated back and forth with each other. One of the letters that is included in this story really helps the reader understand how Martin feels about Caitlin and how much Caitlin has helped out Martin and his family. One of the letters in the book says, “I am very glad about the way your lovin family and you are helping our poor family. Words cannot express how deep your love is for me and my family” (Welch 163). This example of one of the unique story structures in the book helps the reader understand more about the relationship between them and how strong and important their bond is.
Gaining Color In the beginning, butterflies’ wings are transparent and colorless. By growing and flying in the light, they are able to stain their wings and achieve the vibrant colorful wings they are famous for. The Mirabal sisters did not start off as the faces of the underground revolution against Trujillo.
Together each writer uses setting to reveal more and more about the female protagonist’s emotional state or their conflict. The main female protagonist in each of the story/play sees themselves in many of the same aspects. In both the story/play the female-male relationship had a major impact on how the female characters actions are justified by their own standards. Faulkner uses the decaying effect of time on Miss Emily’s character which drives her to insanity.
Flores begins the book by talking about her life prior to Detroit. This sets up the story well

This quote tells just how are the girls are feeling because it is impossible to know what to do without the girls trusting someone. In Jennifer Shaw Wolf’s books Breaking Beautiful and Dead Girls Don’t Lie uses the same stylistic elements. The stylistic elements she uses to portray her style are flashbacks, characters, and similar theme.
Lucy Westenra is the best friend of Mina Harker and thus the second female main character of the novel. Stoker describes with Lucy a representative of the New Women movement, as the time was seen by the British population. She is single and lives with her mother, who is suffering from heart disease. Her family, that was once very prosperous, consist only of herself and her aging mother. She is Dracula’s first victim /vampire child in England.
In Victorian society, women had the choice between two roles: the pure woman or the fallen woman. Bram Stoker plays with these anxieties revolving around female sexuality – he follows the gothic tradition of innocent damsel in distress against looming evil. The narrative structure Stoker imploys to the text through intertextuality reveals multiple point of view distinguishing a duality in Lucy - her true self and 'thing'. In order to cope with Lucy’s worsening condition, the male authoritative figures of the text assign a duality present in Lucy to make sense of her shifting from “pure woman” to “fallen woman”. Stoker exhibits in the structure of the multi-faceted narrative how certain characters are unable to cope with the duality present
As she is sick, Arthur gives her a blood transfusion to try to help her become better but when it does not work, she is stabbed in the heart to go back to her original beauty and die. Lucy in the book shows how the ideal Victorian woman can so suddenly turn into the bad, evil, sexual woman that was unacceptable. Throughout the novel, Bram Stoker showed in detail what was considered to be the ideal Victorian woman through the character Mina. He also showed how women were sexualized, misbehaved, and evil through the behaviors of Dracula’s three daughters.
Comparison of Dracula and Twilight’s vamps Characterisation of Dracula and Meyer’s vamps in these two books is entirely different. Through Stephanie Meyer 's novel vampires are illustrated as inhumanity attractive, powerful almost human creation. Her vampires have major advantages over Stocker 's they are described almost without any weaknesses. Despite of vamps ' reputation they can consume garlic and drink animal blood which is enough for survival, cannot transform into a bat or wolf but some of them have special talents as reading in others minds (Edward), steering emotions (Jasper) or see the future (Alice).
Many modernists were inspired by the Civil War, WWI, and the Great Depression to introduce a new theme into literature. This theme consisted of the stream of conscious, and hopelessness. A short piece that has both of these themes is “The Jilting of Granny Weatherall,” by Katherine Ann Porter. Porter’s short story compared to many other modernistic pieces during the modernist time period. A terrific comparison to this story is the story “Rose for Emily” by William Faulkner, which also has both the stream of conscious and hopelessness as themes.

Eliza is taught how to play the piano, embroidery and cooking. Miss Rose has also plans of sending Eliza to Madame Colbert’s, a school of girls where she would advance her education. Dracula is about vampires in general, the myth, the mystery and the horror. Even though Dracula wasn’t the first vampire story, it was the first really popular one. Throughout the novel, the author, Bram Stoker, portrays many different aspects of women's roles in the 19th century. With the use of imagery and symbolism, the theme of sexuality and gender roles has an enormous presence in the novel. Social gender roles of women and men during the Victorian Era were very strict and looked upon differently than any other time period.
Emily Grierson is from the story "A Rose for Emily"and is the main character. In a story, you usually have a protagonist which is the hero or main character of the story and also an antagonist which is pretty much the bad guy. Well in "A Rose for Emily," she is both protagonist and antagonist. Emily is qualified to be the antagonist because she murdered Homer Barron. Murder is quite a big deal and would definitely go under as being the bad guy.
