Through the Genre experiment 2 (movie review) assignment, I learned how to author a film review write-up. The knowledge I obtained through these writing exercises constitutes the information that I want to remember from the English 1010 course. In this essay, I will outline the specific knowledge that I obtained by tackling the five English 1010 assignments of Literacy Narrative, Rhetorical Analysis, Non-Academic Discourse, Genre Experiment 1 and Genre Experiment 2.
Chapter 11 of Fundamentals of Literacy Instruction and Assessment, FLIA, and Chapter 5 of Pathways to the Common Core, PCC, relate very well to each other. One of the most difficult types of texts to comprehend for many are informational texts, yet they are also very important in a student’s education. Both chapters talk about the importance of comprehending the text and what must happen for students to comprehend what they are reading. While FLIA discusses different comprehension strategies, instructional strategies, and how to specifically approach reading comprehension with students, PCC discusses what comprehending the text will look like and what the students will gain from comprehending the text. They each are important in their own way.
Chapters one through three in Content Area Reading and Literacy and Do I Really have to Teach Reading details the concept that every teacher is a reading teacher. These chapters outline the importance of assisting students in making connections and becoming active independent readers, by linking content to the lives of each student. Thoughtful planning and creating a safe, supportive environment for a diverse population of readers, including gifted and struggling readers, was also presented throughout the reading. The next day he turned white sparkly the next day his arms and legs fell off he felt very weird and was freaking out, and the next day after that he formed into a complete bean, he felt scared and frightened. This chapter can help young writers in English class with their papers in many different ways. For instance, Trimble gives examples on what a veteran writer does in order to make their writing interesting. He also gives out techniques on how you can get a reader’s attention or how you can fix your writing to make it readable instead of having nonsense. What makes this difficult for me as a writer is that I write what ever comes to my mind and it will not make sense. Another thing that makes it difficult for me as a writer is that I am not good at getting the readers attention and having him hooked on to my work.
My Literacy Narrative I was never truly an avid reader when I was younger. I was the oldest of five siblings and left in charge of taking care of my younger brothers and sister. I was more prone to spending time outside than reading a book. Of course, I did find myself enjoying a good mystery novel, but playing ball would always trump even a good book.
I didn’t learn to read or write until I was 7 years old. I was in my second grade class and my peers and I were sitting in a circle when the teacher called on me to read. I sputtered some gibberish with a tomato red face. The only words I recognized were “it’s” “it,” and “a”- which is really just a letter.
Personal Literacy Narrative Reading and writing is a tool everybody needs in their lifetime the basic reading and writing skills are used on a daily base no matter what field you plan to study. Reading and writing are taught at a young age. I personally was taught by preschool I noticed on how I grew with my writing and how I became a better reader and writer throughout my life I personal love reading and writing it’s a way for everyone to express themselves through their choice of words. Everybody learns how to read and write differently some students tend to be stronger than others, personally speaking I feel I tend to be higher in reading then writing.
In my literacy Narrative I will be tackling two problems. The first being my illiteracy in fanti, and the second being my struggle with speaking and pronunciation when I was little. I will be covering a small moment from preschool when I first started to struggle with pronunciation, and discuss how I fixed my english, but at the same time lost any linguistic connection I had to fanti. The second problem will more primarily be focused on in the introduction and conclusion, while the first will be the subject of my small moment. The defining moment any particular will be when my teacher talks to my parents, about me having a literacy problem with speaking english properly.
Summary: Bunn’s article informs us and shows us how to read, think, and analyze like a reader when reading. Reading like a writer helps us to think critically. The type of writing Bunn is using in his article is expository writing. The intended audience(s) in this article is college students.
Literacy Narrative Essay Well, there are many things that made me the reader and writer I am, only a few important events had huge impacts on me. Events such as; teachers constantly correcting my grammar, not being able to pronounce certain words, and a soccer injury that made me a pick up a book. These things helped me become the reader and writer I am. It gave me motivation, strength , and courage.
My relationship with literacy has been a journey all on its own. From learning how to sound out letters and words, to reading my first sentence , I have developed quite a valuable foundation and platform, that will eventually guide me to success. I have had the pleasure of experiencing a love that just continues to blossom. A love that will never fail, nor will I fail it. This love that I speak of is my passion for reading, writing and literacy as a whole.
