In act three scene three the characters Cassio, Othello, Desdemona, iago, and Emilia. Desdemona assures Cassio that she’ll help him get his job back, since she's doing this Iago is feeding the thought that Desdemona is cheating. Iago is trying to get revenge on the people who wronged him. In the novel Othello the author uses a variety of literary devices for example imagery, symbolism, and dramatic irony. Imagery is being shown when Iago says “ an old black ram is tupping your white ewe”. This statement is meant to portray Othello and Desdemonas relationship, he is trying to dehumanize Othello so Brabantio reacts shameful. Symbolism is shown when Othello gives Desdemona the handkerchief covered with strawberries, this is meant to show a promise of love and that he’ll never leave her. Lastly dramatic irony is shown when Iago is acting like Cassio is trying to get with Desdemona but in reality he’s trying to convince her to talk to Othello about getting his job back. The characters in Othello seem to be very close to each other and all seem to be “trustworthy” but this isn’t true. Iago seems to be a very honest and trustworthy person, he tells Othello about how Desdemona might be having an affair with Rodrigo. This might seem like he’s just informing his friend about his suspicions, but in reality he is looking for his personal gain. Iago is only informing Othello so that he can hopefully get his job back. Most of the characters portray to be better and have true intentions while putting up a front. His motivations are impure and is only talking to Othello and Cassio for personal
