CRITICAL REVIEW: MORE CHILDREN LIVING IN POVERTY NOW THAN DURING RECESSION
INTRODUCTION
In this article, the author of USA Today News, Jennifer Calfas is written the articles of topic “More children are living in poverty now than during recession”. Based on research, we can prove that reductions in poverty do not reliably reduce racial inequality, nor do they inevitably reach low income people of color. The poverty rate among American India and Latinos taken together was still 2.6 times greater than that for white Americans. This disparity was stunning, yet it was the smallest difference in poverty rates between whites and others in more than three decade. And from 2001 to 2003, as the economy slowed, poverty rates for most communities of color increased more dramatically than they did for white, widening the racial poverty gap. According to Stephanie Hogenson, the research and policy director at the Children’s Defense Fund in Minnesota shows that the programs that provide publicly subsidized health care to low-income individuals in the state tend to mostly benefit white children. Modern and historical forces combine to keep many communities of color disconnected from networks of economic opportunity and upward mobility. Therefore, poor people of color are also increasingly more likely than whites to find themselves living in high poverty neighborhoods with limited resources and limited options. This article of research suggest that many of the factor that cause poverty but research also realized that they just focus on what best for children but doesn’t ensure that those programs are accessible and easily utilized by children of color and their family. ‘Doing the things right’ just can give the what the best to children but the most effectiveness way to eliminate the poverty is ‘doing the things right’ that is ensure that the entire program are accessible by their family. Therefore, the family can give the good quality of life to their children. This section contains an evaluation of article.
