In the book When I Was Puerto Rican, all the stories I read were about people living in poverty. There were no rich people in the book. People had it hard, and they made due. I think anyone reading this book, would feel blessed. People were struggling either to make a better life, or just make it period. The book allowed me to see through the eyes of another race, and a different circumstance than I was ever in. This book exposed me to another world. A world that I would not like to be in. Things that most people take for granted every day, such as food, are so much more important to the people that Santiago talks about in the book. People in America eat too much food, and get fat, and even throw food away, when these people don’t
