Technology has been around for thousands of years in a plethora of different forms. As time continues on, so too do the advancements in technology. To be more specific, the technological advancement most synonymous with the modern individual is the internet. The birth of the internet has allowed for things that were not possible before: connect with people all over the world in an instant, order a television from an online marketplace and have it delivered right to the doorstep, or enjoy new forms of entertainment. However, alongside the introduction of the internet and its benefits comes with a number of anxieties, too. For example, the internet allows for the impossible it be possible. Misinformation is not exclusive to the internet but has been around for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. However, it is with the birth of the internet that the spread of misinformation has been increased tenfold. Since the internet is readily accessible to almost anyone with an internet connection, misinformation has the ability to be easily spread across the entirety of the planet in an instant. Therefore, given how the internet is a more recent phenomenon, Lize Deceptaur would fall into the first theory by Jeffery Cohen, “The Monster’s Body is a Cultural Body.” Furthermore, because of the scale of the internet, misinformation is a bigger threat than ever and poses an extreme threat to society. With this in mind, it would make Lize an extremely relevant monster to the anxieties created by the internet.
