(49). Candy’s dog, whom he had since it was just a little pup and the only thing he can really call family now was just shot and killed by one of his fellow ranch workers. Candy talks to George and Lennie about their dream farm, “‘When they can me here I wisht somebody’d shoot me. But they won’t do nothing like that. I won’t have no place to go, an’ I can’t get no more jobs…’”
Have you ever been lonely? For someone to be lonely, it means that he or she is solitary and do not have any companions. Loneliness appears in today’s world in different cases. In Of Mice and Men, the characters that present the theme of loneliness are Candy, Curley’s wife, George, Crooks, and Curley. Early in the book, George sets the lonely mood by stating to Lennie, “Guys like us that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world.”(pg

A lot of people don't really understand how much everybody coming together and being there for each other affects one and other a lot of the times discrimination and selectivity are a big cause of loneliness . Three characters that represent loneliness the best are Lennie , Candy , and Crooks and the following paragraphs are why . Isolation from others because of something that can not be controlled can often leave somone lost and depressed. Crooks was mistreated and isolated from everybody else because he is black . He never received the same amount of respect as the others.
John Steinbeck lived through the Great Depression, so he wrote about it. The Great Depression started in 1929, when the stock market crashed. Money was scarce. At the beginning of this time, came the Dust Bowl. There was no rain out west and that created dust tornados.
When you see someone alone and away from others what goes through your mind? You may think they are antisocial or that they are just a loner, but have you ever stopped to think about what goes through their mind? Some people may enjoy being alone and try their best to shut others out, but what about those who get shut out by others. Loneliness comes in many forms. Someone who seems to throw themselves at people could just be searching for someone to catch them and understand them.
Everyone experiences loneliness at some point in their life, but prolonged isolation changes the way a lonely person interacts with others. In John Steinbeck's novella, Of Mice and Men, three characters are discriminated against throughout the story because they are not young, white men. While Candy and Curley's Wife try to compensate for their lack of companionship by pushing themselves onto other people, Crooks puts up his walls and isolates himself more. Candy is a ranch worker on the farm before he lost a hand in a work accident. He now works as a swamper, but the rest of the workers still exclude him because of his old age.
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is a compelling novel that tells the story of two friends, George and Lennie, who constantly seek work and farm job opportunities to eventually reach a convenient and stable lifestyle on the ranch. While George is your average farmworker who is calculated and enduring, Lennie is less survival oriented, and despite his untraditional and less intelligent behavior, is a talented and strong worker. Despite their differences, they look after each other and their friendship is strong. After running away from a terrible incident from a previous job in Weed, they find ranch work in Salinas and continue to try and earn enough money to buy their own place whilst meeting their new coworkers. Throughout this story, we are introduced to a few characters that are unordinary and hold
The deteriorated pessimistic feeling of living in regret and sorrow repeating like a broken record. John Steinbeck’s novel, Of Mice and Men, is more than just a story from the Great Depression. This classic novel touches upon a topic that is timeless, loneliness. The author creates amazing detailed characters that display the theme of loneliness in only a way Steinbeck can. His character Candy is a portrait of an empty soul, a person who lives to forget as if each day is just another beatdown on life itself.
Secondly, In this novella men find a way to isolate themself and eventually cause them loneliness. Another reason why man sharing a bunker together can be lonely is because of fear. Men can become so scared of each other they can force themselves into isolation. The reason these men carry so much fear is, they are scared to lose independence, the fear of being rejected, and losing masculinity. Generally speaking men are so scared to bruise their independence.
Some have felt like they're in their own bubble and can't seem to get out, or are in a dark, narrow space and have no savior. Each person in humanity are like one in a million stars in the night sky, and some of these stars can create constellations, and others cannot. This here is something called loneliness, and everyone has experienced this feeling at some point in their lives. In this current society, people are judged by what colour they are, or what disabilities they have, and even how many possessions they own. Society today, more and more people are being placed into that dark, narrow room of loneliness.
There is a pre-found power of loneliness that roots within us as individuals. Whether it’s any situational variable such as physical isolation or closed doors to a companion. Each character in John Steinbeck’s novel Of Mice and Men goes through a phase of cultivating themselves into a decree of loneliness. While Candy’s companion was destined to be murdered, Crooks never felt the presence of one. And there’s Curley’s wife - has a husband who craves the admiration of his marriage more than his wife.
An Israeli writer Yehuda Berg once said; “Unfortunately, it is human nature for us to only learn and grow from a place of emptiness. It's hard to learn when we are winning and on top of the world.” This quote highlights the idea that learning and personal growth often come from moments of isolation. In other words, loneliness can result in becoming isolated from society in both positive or negative ways. Loneliness comes in many forms; emotional, social, and existential.
Of Mice and Men contains many themes like dreams, the corrupting power of women, discrimination, friendship, loneliness and power. However, the themes being discussed are dreams and loneliness; the two themes are - in my opinion - very important to discuss as people don't understand the importance of dreams and how lonely people can get and how it affects their lives. A 'dream' is a cherished aspiration, ambition or ideal. ' Dreams' are significant as they are the starting point of every person's goal in life or a vision of what everybody wants to do/be in the future.
It was a sunny afternoon, Rainsford was having a nice family lunch with his two children, Jack and Eva. They were a small town restaurant called No Regrets in a small town off the coast of California. As they were sitting there eating their sandwiches the door opened and in walked Zaroff. He tramped over to the table with Rainsford and his kids. When he got their Rainsford stood up and stepped in front of his kids.
