Climate change is a very serious and growing problem in our world today. It can be defined as a change in global or regional climate patterns, and is accounted for the increased levels of atmospheric CO2 produced by fossil fuels. There are various factors that partake in climate change both natural and human, but scientists believe the largest component is the greenhouse effect, (process by which radiation from a planet 's atmosphere warms the planet 's surface to a temperature above what it would be without its atmosphere). Some long-term effects of climate change can include an increase in heat waves and heavy precipitation, a decrease in sea ice, an increase in permafrost thawing, and decreased water resources in semi-arid regions (USGS Science for a changing world, Campbell). …show more content…
