The first Chapter tells the readers about Jim Gallien, a union electrician, and his encounter with a hitchhiker. The hitchhiker introduces himself as Alex from South Dakota, although his real name is Christopher Johnson McCandless, originally from Virginia. Chris tells Gallien that he “want[s] a ride as far as the edge of Denali National Park, where he intend[s] to walk deep into the bush and “live off the land for a few months”” (Krakauer 4). Gallien admits that he believed Chris would be another “of those crackpots from the lower forty-eight who come north to live out ill-considered Jack London fantasies” (Krakauer 4), but he soon realizes that Chris knew exactly what he was letting himself in for.
Shem Pete’s Alaska is about the wonders that Alaska has to give. Shem Pete focuses mainly on rivers located in Alaska in this book, such as the Skwentna River, Matanuska River, Turnagain Arm, and so on. Shem Pete gives a brief description of each river, the surroundings, and the culture within the area. From what I have read, every place that Shem Pete talks about, has their own language, and is very diverse and the rivers of Alaska has the most beautiful rivers in the world. Not only are these rivers here for sight seeing, but they are also there for hunting food, and to bring back food.
Going out into the wild all by yourself can be nerve wracking and lonely. Jon Krakauer makes Chris McCandless seemed like a noble person who took the initiative to try to go out and live into the wild. The book Into the Wild written by Jon Krakauer, is about a teenager named Chris McCandless leaving society and traveling to Alaska by himself with nothing else but a bag of rice and a small .22 caliber gun. Chris is heroic because he went to Alaska by himself without any knowledge of Alaska and didn’t know any of the dangers of Alaska. One way Krakauer make Chris seem noble is when Chris is about to enter Alaska he tells Gallien “ I’m goin’ to get on up there live off the land,go claim me a piece of the good life” (Krakauer 4).

He sets out on a journey to Alaska, leaving behind his family and friends. He is determined to find himself and his place in the world.

Chris McCandless was reckless and unready, and it cost him his life. He made dumb mistakes but altogether, he was a courageous young man who deserves to be praised for his bravery.
Into the wild, is a book by Jon Krakauer that later got turned into a film by Sean Penn, it follows the life of Christopher McCandless, who graduated from Emory University as a top student and athlete with wealthy pushing parents. Instead of continuing his life as a working man of society and taking his offers at top law schools, he decides to ultimately completely disconnect himself from society and instead tries to find his own meaning of life in the wild. Shaun Callarman says “ I think that Chris McCandless was bright and ignorant at the same time.” and i really agree with him on that because even though he left his college a top student the way he wanted to completely disconnect himself the way he did was ignorant. Not only that In the movie it clearly shows that even though he didn't want to connect with people on his journey to alaska he did, I think that if he wouldn't have been so set on being alone and not being attached to others he wouldn't have died the way he did.
The book/story is about a guy named Chris McCandless who was born into an abusive family and had a very strange perspective of the world. he graduated from Emory University in May 1990 with a bachelor's degree. when grows up he decides to go on a really long trip to several states. His target was Alaska and when he reached Alaska he survived there for 113 days and then eventually died of hunger. The first reason Chris McCandless was not justified is that he wasted resources and police time.”
The very first page of this book we are presented with a letter from Alex, who is obviously leaving home. The letter I believed was a really cool way to give us the background of the story we needed to know on a personal level. This was our first look at Alex. He seems excited to be out in the Alaskan bush. Not too many people would be excited about that.
Into the Wild In Jon Krakauer’s novel, Into the Wild , he depicts the story of Chris McCandless and his journey as “Alex Supertramp” across the United States, starting in Georgia and ending with the his death in Alaska. Jon states his argument that Chris wasn’t “stupid, tragic, and inconsiderate” and he tell the story of a young man with a profound moral compass and wants to seek higher truth. In the novel, Chris left to go into the wilderness right after he graduated from college. He did not let his parents know he was leaving for many reasons.
“I think I'm going to disappear for a while”(20). Is what we all wish we could do at some point in our life just disappear or change who we are. No matter how far we go or how fast we run will never be able to outrun who we truly are. After graduating in 1990 from Emory University, Christopher McCandless took off on a road trip without leaving trace behind with only one thing on his mind his destination, Alaska. Based on Krakauer's own experience of going into the wild he uses that to try and justify Chris’ decisions.

Chris is an adventurous boy that graduates from college and journeys west eventually heading into Alaska. Chris does this with minimal supplies because he believes in self reliance. Chris wonders around the west coast traveling and working.
Chris McCandles had many dreams; to get away from his parents, to never end up like his father, to hitchhike around the US, to start his life over. None of those compared to his biggest and most complex dream, ALASKA. Nothing got in the way of Chris’ dreams. Throughout his
Christopher McCandless, whose life and journey are the main ideas of the novel “Into the Wild”, was about an adolescent who, upon graduating from Emory College, decided to journey off into the Alaskan wilderness. He had given away his savings of $25,000 and changed his name to Alex Supertramp. His voyage to Alaska took him two years during which he traveled all across the country doing anomalous jobs and making friends. He inevitably made it to Alaska were he entered the wilderness with little more than a few books, a sleeping bag and a ten pound bag of rice. A couple months after his first day in the wild, his body was found in an abandoned bus.
This book is a great story about a man who struggles to survive in Alaska and eventually dies from poison which was from potatoes that he collected. His last note before he died was, “‘S.O.S. I NEED YOUR HELP. I AM INJURED, NEAR DEATH, AND TOO WEAK TO HIKE OUT OF HERE.I AM ALL ALONE, THIS IS NO JOKE. IN THE NAME OF GOD, PLEASE REMAIN TO SAVE ME. I AM OUT COLLECTING BERRIES CLOSE BY AND SHALL RETURN THIS EVENING.
