Adolescence; the transitional period of our lives when we are developing from children to young adults. It may be the highlight of our lives before having to actually grow up and become adults. Though despite this, we all know it is a remarkably difficult period in our lives. Not everyone is going through the same problems as each other, but we can all agree that adolescence is undeniably not all fun and games. Each of us face our own difficulties with life, with the most common issues related to family, relationships, school, self esteem, and coming of age.
In turn, these issues of adolescence can easily be presented in the books ‘Looking for Alibrandi’ by Melina Marchetta, and ‘Everything, Everything’ by Nicola Yoon.
‘Looking for Alibrandi’ tells the story of Josephine Alibrandi, a seventeen year old who lives with her single-mother Christina, and is at her final year of high school at a wealthy Catholic school. Josie is portrayed as a feisty, but realistic, intelligent teenager who struggles to accept her culture, and has difficulties with her Italian family, as well as academic pressures and relationship trouble.
