In the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, the person most to blame is Lord Capulet. First, Lord Capulet forced Juliet to marry Paris without her consent. He told Paris, “Sir Paris, I will make a desperate tender of my child’s love. I think she will be ruled in all respects by me; nay more, I doubt it not.” (Shakespeare 1061). If he hadn’t arranged Paris and Juliet’s wedding, Juliet wouldn’t have had a reason to take the potion. Her taking the potion is what led to the events of the two lover’s deaths. If only he hadn’t assumed that marrying Paris would make Juliet more happy, that could’ve prevented the whole situation.
