When Jack returns home to his family it will be a much calmer and quieter environment which is why he will be less of a savage SamnEric once they get off the island will become even more timid and have a hard time getting back to their old life because they are too timid to change. SamnEric has always been a bit of an outsider in the group, they stick together because of their shyness and worries. An example of this is when the author says “SamnEric, always a little apart from the rest of the boys, had drawn away even further.” (151) This means “Had drawn away still further” suggests they are actively increasing their physical and social separation from the group. Removing themselves away even more. Purposely remaining as detached people in the story. This connects to them staying timid because it is constant throughout the whole story and we can infer that this will continue off the boat and back home. Another reason why they will stay shy and timid is that Sam Eric always stays shy and is obedient even when around the other boys.
