In the book Lord of the Flies, the author William Goulding, tells a story about a group of boys stranded on an island. This story is an allegory. An allegory is: a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one. 1* Allegories can be in many different types of stories. For example, Lord of the Flies is an allegorical novel. There are three main reasons as to how Lord of the Flies is an allegorical novel. The first and most important reason is the story behind civilization and savagery. There are other small reasons that we will get to later on, which are Loss of innocence, and the conch shell. These two tie into Lord of the Flies because on the island, the boys discover a side of them that they never knew they had, but they always had it in them in the first place.
