Sometimes in life people's behavior can be affected by the environment they are surrounded by. According to William Golding people’s behavior can change due to the environment they are in and they learn to adapt to it.The author William Golding who wrote The Lord Of The Flies utilizes setting to show how people’s behavior can change and learn to adapt to the environment they are in.

For instance, on page 42 it exclaims “I agree with Ralph,We’ve got to have rules and obey them. After all, we’re not savages. We’re English and the English are best at everything, said Jack.” The boys are ages 5-12 years old and aren’t ready to do things on their own.Jack and Ralph are the 2 oldest boys and they start to take leadership roles and responsibility to learn what it’s like to be on the island with no adult supervision.In life people learn how to do things on there own by studying what their parents do but in this situation they were on their own. To add on,on page 50 it states “Been working for days now and look! Two shelters were in position but shaky.”The boys started to learn about adulthood and making themselves shelter, they also started to accept the fact that they weren’t leaving the island any time soon.They made shelters,gathered food, and set rules just like an adult has too.Another reason the environment has an impact on people's behaviors is on page 63 it states “He turned a half concealed face up to Roger and answered the incomprehension of his gaze. For hunting.Like in the war.” While they were on the island they got more mature and took responsibility into their own hands. Jack decided to wear face paint to blend in with nature while hunting just like the war people do. To add on, on page 64 it exclaims “The mask compelled them.” By this it is saying how the face paint affected the way they acted in the environment and the actions they took
