In our current generation, leadership is necessary for humans to successfully function in a positive way. Leadership helps individuals motivate and inspire others to work together, while also producing guidance and direction to ensure that goals are met. Simply having a capable leader can make a big difference on the group's performance. When Leaders ignore their responsibility in a group, it affects everyone negatively, as an individual and as a group. It can lead to disorganization which can delay the productivity of the group. As some leaders act harshly, it leads to misunderstanding and many conflicts which damages the trust that they have in each other. An example of this is when Jack harshly went up the mountain while Ralph was still trying to figure out the rules and maintain order, “At once half the boys were on their feet. Jack clamored among them, the conch forgotten.”(38). This shows how Jack is acting on his own without having the rest of the group agree with him. As he acts impulsively, the rest of the boys have no other choice but to follow him as he is leading the group. Jack's decision on suddenly climbing up the mountain does not only show that he is acting impulsively, it also shows how it affects specific individuals of the group such as Ralph and Piggy. Ralph was trying to be a capable, organized leader, when Jack then took away the attention, making the rest of the boys follow him. Due to Jack, Ralph was ignored, “Ralph was on his feet too, shouting for quiet, but no one heard him”(38). This describes how Jack is making Ralph feel left out while he is trying to make the group be productive. This affects Ralph and makes him feel like his voice and opinions don't matter as no one is listening to him and it also affects everyone else. Jack is a sole example of thinking about himself and how he is shown to everyone else. Jack is always too focused on the power and control he has over others, instead of uniting everyone together. An example of this is when Jack went against Ralph and departed from the group, taking a few of the boys, “I’m going off by myself. He can catch his own pigs. Anyone who wants to hunt when I do can come too”(127). This displays how Jack wants to go on his own without having someone who can control the way he acts. This makes the group destruct, as they break apart. Instead of having one group there were now 2 different groups, one with Ralph as a leader and the other as Jack. This makes both groups destruct, Ralph losing confidence in leading the group and Jack who takes advantage of his power.
