Thesis Statement: A group's division causes distractions which have a negative impact.

I. Introductory paragraph
1. Intro strategy - Ralph is the leader of the civilized group and Jack is the leader of the savage group. Golding reveals the growing tension between civilization and savagery. Some of many reasons that this division of the two groups happens is because of their actions and views about the situation they are in, also the struggle of leadership between Ralph and Jack and the meaning and importance of the conch.

Developmental Paragraph #2
Topic Sentence - Jack criticizes Ralph as leader. This was the beginning of the conflict between the two main characters Jack and Ralph.
Primary Quote: “He's not a hunter. He'd never have got us meat. He isn't a prefect and we don't know anything about him. He just gives orders and expects people to obey for nothing. All this talk —” (Golding 182).
Quote analysis – Jack explains why Ralph should not the leader. He wants to be the one at authority, by giving all these reasons he wants to prove that Ralph is not the right leader for the group. He says that Ralph never got the pigs while ignoring all the other efforts he puts into tasks B. Transitional sentence: Jack does this because he’s insecure about being left alone and wants to be around a group.
Secondary Quote: “Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) has found having a group of friends – rather than a best friend – could help to protect children's mental and emotional wellbeing...” Quote analysis – Jack fears that if Ralph has all the power, the group of boys might obey Ralph more and he would be left alone. Transitional sentence: Ralph wants everyone to focus on the motive of being rescued, with or without Jack.

IV. Developmental Paragraph #3
A. Topic Sentence - Ralph tells everyone what are his priorities.
1. Primary Quote:“I said we could all do without a certain person. Now I say we got to decide on what can be done. And I think I could tell you what Ralph's going to say next. The most important thing on the island is the smoke and you can't have no smoke without a fire.” (Golding 185)
2. Quote analysis: Jack and his hunters let the fire die out, causing a ship to pass by without a smoke signal showing and allowing the group of boys to miss an opportunity of being rescued.
B. Transitional sentence: Ralph’s priorities are to build shelters and keep a signal fire going in order to get rescued, however Jack’s priorities are to hunt meat for the boys and have fun.
1. Secondary Quote: For many youth, being with the “in crowd” and becoming a social butterfly are key for social inclusion and happiness.”
2. Quote analysis: Jack feared being alone and idea of not having power like Piggy, or when everybody making fun of him drove him towards groupism.
