Some of the characters in the fictional world evolves to relate to the ever-changing situations and lose their ability to connect with civilization, however, there are a few who remain their inner selves. However, there are a few who exist in the middle in this universe. One of theses boys is Jack Merridew, a leader of the choir. Jack is depicted as an evil leader, one who undergoes a change from a civilized person to being an aggressive savage who loses touch with humanity, and his capability to manipulate others and the use of aggressive methods to achieve personal goals. This is seen during Jack 's theft of Piggy 's glasses on Page 167 where Jack uses a silent sneak attack to steal Piggy 's glasses. This is further mentioned in this quote “Then there was a vicious snarling in the mouth of the shelter and the plunge and thump of living things. Someone tripped over Ralph and Piggy 's corner became a complication of snarls and crashes and flying limbs” Jack 's use of aggressive methods here, makes him think irrationally and therefore increases his aggression towards the other group. This further increases his savagery as on Page 168, it states that “He was a chief now in truth; and he made stabbing motions with his spear. From his left hand dangled Piggy 's broken glasses.” Another instance that demonstrates this is on Pg (insert Pg No here) where the book states that " This means that Jack has slowly started to lose his civilized means as a civilized person would have asked for the glasses and not stolen them aggressively as Jack had.
